Taking a blood thinner like XARELTO® is an important part of your posthospitalization care plan. Usually, you’ll begin taking XARELTO® while you are still in the hospital. If your healthcare professional wants you to continue taking XARELTO® after returning home, make sure you fill your prescription as soon as possible after leaving—even if you need to ask a friend or family member to pick up your medication for you.

Be sure that you will have enough XARELTO® available to avoid missing any doses. Set a reminder on your phone or put a note on your fridge or calendar to refill your prescription before you run out.

Tips for taking XARELTO®

  • Do not change your dose or stop taking XARELTO® without talking to the healthcare professional who prescribes it for you. Stopping XARELTO® increases your risk of having a DVT or PE blood clot.
  • Take XARELTO® exactly as prescribed by your healthcare professional.
  • If you miss a dose of XARELTO®, take it as soon as you remember on the same day. Take your next dose at your regularly scheduled time.
  • Talk to your healthcare professional if you have any other questions about your medication.
