Proven in a large clinical study.

In a clinical study of more than 14,000 people, treatment with XARELTO® was proven to lower your chance of having a stroke due to AFib not caused by a heart valve problem. XARELTO® is an anticoagulant, or blood thinner, that works by helping to keep blood clots from forming. This is important because when you have AFib, the irregular heartbeat can allow blood to be trapped in the upper chambers of the heart, which can cause blood clots to form. And if a clot leaves the heart, it can travel to the brain and cause a stroke.

Learn how AFib can cause blood clots that may lead to stroke.

XARELTO® was also studied in people with increased stroke risk.

The study that proved XARELTO® effective at reducing risk of strokes from AFib also included people with AFib who had one or more of the following conditions that increased their stroke risk:

  • high blood pressure
  • age greater than 75
  • diabetes
  • heart failure
  • previous strokes

XARELTO® is a prescription medicine used to reduce the risk of stroke and blood clots in people with atrial fibrillation, not caused by a heart valve problem. For patients currently well managed on warfarin, there is limited information on how XARELTO® and warfarin compare in reducing the risk of stroke.

XARELTO® is also a prescription medicine used to treat deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, and to help reduce the risk of these conditions occurring again.

XARELTO® is also a prescription medicine used to reduce the risk of forming a blood clot in the legs and lungs of people who have just had knee or hip replacement surgery.
